The Water Screw
- Invented by Archimedes
- Device used for raising water using an encased screw open at both ends
- It is set at an angle, as the screw turns, water fills the air pockets and is transported upwards
- The water screw consists of several continuous helical walls, when the entire cylinder is rotated on the longitudinal axis, it scoops up water at the lower end, and dumps it out the upper end
The Olympics
- Started in 776 BCE
- If two or more city states were at war when the Olympics arrived, the war was stopped for the duration of the games
Columns
- 3 types of columns: Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian
- Doric is a plain column
- Ionic is decorated with scrolls
- Corinthian is decorated with lots of details
